LaRC Contractors Steering Council Meeting – May 17, 2018

The next Langley Contractors Steering Council (LCSC) meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in Building 2102, Reid 1.  This month’s agenda includes a presentation on the new Agency Unauthorized Device (UD) policy from the LaRC OCIO, the LaRC Maker Space presented by David North and Krista Jensen, and a company presentation from Spatial Integration Systems.

The LCSC is comprised of on/near site LaRC contractors and civil servant employees and provides timely information and feedback on Center-wide issues and activities of mutual interest.  Additionally the council acts as a forum for informal communications between LaRC and the local contractor community.  The LCSC meets on the third Thursday of every month.

The next Langley Contractors Steering Council (LCSC) meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 19, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in Building 2102, Pearl Young Theater.  This month’s agenda includes a briefing of the Low-Boom Flight Demonstration Project by Dave Richwine, Low-Boom Flight Demonstration Project Deputy Project Manager for Technology, and a capability briefing from Keith Hoffler of Adaptive Aerospace Group (AAG).

The LCSC is comprised of on/near site LaRC contractors and civil servant employees and provides timely information and feedback on Center-wide issues and activities of mutual interest.  Additionally the council acts as a forum for informal communications between LaRC and the local contractor community.  The LCSC meets on the third Thursday of every month.

LaRC Office of Small Business Programs recognizes LaRC employees with Small Business Advocates Awards

The NASA Small Business Advocates Awards Program recognizes outstanding efforts in developing and implementing innovative practices in support of the Agency’s small business program. Sponsored by the Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP), this annual awards program acknowledges the contributions made by NASA civil servant personnel throughout the Agency.  NASA OSBP has recognized the following LaRC employees for their efforts in supporting the agency’s small business program:

Ms. Fran Risinger, of the Office of Chief Information Officer, was honored as the FY13 Small Business Technical Person of the Year for her work as a Contracts Manager in the OCIO, and for her efforts in developing the procurement strategy and her support of the new small business contractor selected for the Langley Administrative, Media and Professional Services (LAMPS).

Ms. Monica Ross-Clunis, Deputy Director for Institutional Services in the Center Operations Directorate was honored as the FY12 Program Person of the Year for her efforts partnering with the Office of Procurement to advance small business goals.  Ms. Ross-Clunis worked closely with OP to identify additional small business and Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZones), .resulting in well over $7M in awards to these small businesses.

Mr. Randy Manning, LaRC Small Business Specialist, was honored as the FY12 Small Business Specialist of the Year for his efforts leading LaRC to a record setting year with a 54.4% of available dollars awarded to small businesses, the highest rate since record keeping began in 1990.  As the Small Business Specialist, Mr. Manning works closely with the contractor and the LaRC technical community to identify requirements for small business sources.  Mr. Manning also serves on the LaRC Contractor Steering Council as well as the Virginia Aerospace Business Association.

Contractors Steering Council Meeting – March 15th

Our next meeting of the Langley Contractors Steering Council is Thursday, March 15 at 2 pm in Room #305, Building #2101.

Our featured speaker will be Rear Admiral U.S. Navy (Ret.) Craig R. Quigley, Executive Director of the Hampton Roads Military and Federal Facilities Alliance (HRMFFA). HRMFFA is an initiative of the Hampton Roads Mayors and Chairs Caucus. The Alliance was established to collectively focus area efforts on preserving and growing Federal capabilities within the Hampton Roads region.

Craig Quigley serves as the Executive Director of the Hampton Roads Military & Federal Facilities Alliance, a public-private partnership dedicated to attracting, retaining and growing federal facilities in the region. A career naval officer, Mr. Quigley served 27 years on active duty, achieving the rank of rear admiral and serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs) at the Pentagon.

Upon retiring from the Navy, Mr. Quigley accepted a position as Vice President of Communications & Public Affairs for Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems & Sensors, leading a 30-person communications team across eight states for a $3.5B operating company.

Following Lockheed Martin, Mr. Quigley returned to federal government service as the Director of Communication for U.S. Joint Forces Command in Hampton Roads, Virginia during a time of great transition in that organization.

Mr. Quigley is a 1975 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md. and has served as president of his class. A native of Winthrop, Iowa, he is an active public speaker, and believes in the value of mentoring juniors and developing teamwork to accomplish difficult objectives. He has been listed in “Who’s Who in American High Schools” and “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities,” and was selected as an “Outstanding Young Man of America” in 1980. He serves as a member of the Communications Committee of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association Board of Trustees, as well as a member of the Board of the Hampton Roads Naval Historic Foundation.

Mr. Quigley assumed his current duties in September 2010.
