Earth Science Decadal Survey Community Forum on April 15, 2021 at 1:00 PM

Jonathan Kelly requested that the following information from Jamie Wicks be shared with LaRC Contractors Steering Council members.

As NASA works toward implementation of the new 2017 Decadal Survey, “Thriving on Our Changing Planet: A Decadal Strategy for Earth Observations from Space,” (2017 ESAS) we are developing mechanisms for communicating progress with you and for hearing any questions that you may have for our further consideration.

The NASA Earth Science Division (ESD) invites you to join us for a Community Forum on Thursday April 15, 2021 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. ET, for an update on the approach, timing and opportunities to engage with this process. This meeting will be virtual only. Teleconference and WebEx information appears at the end of this message.

During the forum we will provide an update on the strategic implementation of the 2017 ESAS, with particular emphasis on the studies initiated on the program element identified as the Designated Observables (DOs). ESD is seeking new ways to leverage the work and ideas in the non-governmental/private sector to contribute possible approaches that may address the designated observables recommendations in the 2017 ESAS in order to increase mission/observing system capability and/or to reduce costs. Community forum presentations and other supporting materials will be made available online as they become available.

This is part of a continuing series of Community Forums planned to keep the Earth Science community informed and engaged as we develop specific approaches for implementing Decadal Survey’s recommendations.

For information on the Decadal, upcoming Community Forums, including teleconference and WebEx information, and to provide written feedback please refer to our Decadal Surveys web page.
